With the newly acquired Renaissance lidded cup, the Siegerlandmuseum presents one of the most significant new objects of recent decades and another highlight at the Upper Castle.

Made around 1581 in the renowned Nuremberg workshop of master goldsmith Hans I. Rappolt, this magnificent cup combines outstanding craftsmanship with a close connection to Siegen and the Siegerland region. The commissioner was Valentin von und zu der Hees, son of a Nassau official of the same name and later Commander of the Order of St. John in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

The exhibition places the richly decorated cup at its center and traces its fascinating journey through several centuries of European history.
