Crypt of Nassau-Siegen

The crypt of Nassau-Siegen can be visited annually from 1st April to 31th October on every first and third Sunday in each month between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. with free admission.

Additionally, guided tours are available upon request.

Johann Moritz of Nassau-Siegen originally had the princely crypt planned and realised as a free-standing crypt. Until the manorial crypt was built, the Counts of Nassau-Siegen were buried in St Nicholas' Church. In addition to Johann Moritz, his parents Johann VII of Nassau-Siegen and Margarethe of Holstein-Sonderburg were also buried in the princely crypt. His father's first wife, Margarethe of Waldeck-Wildungen, also found her final resting place here.

Princess Sophie Polyxene Concordia of Sayn-Wittgenstein was the last representative of the royal family to be laid to rest in the princely crypt of the Lower Castle in 1781.
